What Does the Hokkaido University Future Earth Consortium (HUFEC) Do?
For the purpose of developing Future Earth (FE), an international academic program, at Hokkaido University, the Hokkaido University Future Earth Consortium (HUFEC) aims to promote trans-disciplinary initiatives at Hokkaido University through collaboration and cooperation with a wide range of stakeholders in society, with each department and researcher at the university working together to promote the initiatives. Also, through the activities of Future Earth, HUFEC aims to contribute to efforts at all levels of society toward the realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Japan and abroad. Furthermore, HUFEC will continue to participate in the Future Earth Japan Committee and support its activities in order to develop and strengthen the university's international initiatives.
To achieve these objectives, the Hokkaido University Future Earth Consortium carries out the following activities.
- It builds a network of participating departments and exchanges information.
- It organizes and sponsors symposiums and other events in cooperation with participating departments.
- As a member organization of the Future Earth Japan Committee, it supports the committee’s activities.
- It supports the university’s international initiatives toward the realization of the sustainable society envisioned by the UN.
- It promotes trans-disciplinary efforts of research and education by collaborating and cooperating with a wide range of stakeholders in society.
- It collaborates with centers related to Future Earth at the university, exchanges information with them, and supports their activities.

The Future Earth Japan Committee
With the purpose of further promoting Future Earth in Japan, the Future Earth Japan Committee plays the role of a representative of stakeholders in society.
