Invitation from NHK Enterprises to View the Free Web Movie “Shibusawa Eiichi and SDGs” Produced by the Maison de la Culture du Japon à Paris

December 8, 2021

There are only three episodes left of this year’s NHK Taiga Drama (historical drama television series), “Seiten wo Tsuke”.
As Eiichi Shibusawa approached his later years, he would pursue various enterprises and social activities.

In the meantime, NHK Enterprises has recently created a free YouTube documentary that is unrelated to the TV drama and was produced by the Maison de la Culture du Japon à Paris. It focuses on the Paris Expo as the starting point of Shibusawa Eiichi’s career.

The YouTube documentary “Shibusawa Eiichi and SDGs” is divided into four parts that provide an overview of Shibusawa Eiichi’s relationship with sustainability.
Mr. Ken Shibusawa, Eiichi’s great-great-grandson and chairman of the board of Commons Asset Management Inc., hosts the documentary. The narrator is Ms. Emi Wakui, who played the role of Eiichi’s mother in the Taiga drama.

Part 1 A Parisian Affair: Shibusawa’s French Awakening (approximately 20 minutes)
Part 2 How Japanese Firms Approach the UN SDGs (approximately 18 minutes)
Teikoku Hotel (Imperial Hotel) and an enterprise that is developing businesses in Africa are introduced.
Part 3 Setouchi Triennale: Sustainability through Art (approximately 10 minutes)
Part 4 Lofty Goals: The MCJP Connects France and Japan (approximately 12 minutes)

French and English versions of the documentary are available on the website of the Maison de la Culture du Japon à Paris. Please watch whatever parts might interest you when you have time.
