Seminar information

The “Future of Washing” Initiative, which was jointly established by Kao Corporation, the University of Tokyo Institute for Future Initiatives (IFI), and Future Earth, has been engaging in a series of discussions that cross business boundaries and academic fields in order to realize a society where people around the world can live sustainably, cleanly, and comfortably. Since the forum in December 2018 to commemorate the launch of the initiative, the following five seminars have been held, focusing on sustainable washing.

Sustainable Laundry Part 1 – Perspectives on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
Sustainable Laundry Part 2 – Perspectives on Water and Energy
Sustainable Laundry Part 3 – Perspectives on Clothing and Fibers
Sustainable Laundry Part 4 – Perspectives on Detergents
Sustainable Laundry Part 5 – Perspectives on Detergent Containers

Presentation materials and reports of the seminars are on the initiative’s website. Youth, academia, and business people have been participating in the seminars for discussions from various perspectives. Please visit the website and read the presentation materials and reports.

Blog

The “Future of Washing” Initiative has a new blog entry every month. In 2021, articles introducing the latest research and solutions to environmental problems from Anthropocene, the independent journal of Future Earth, were translated into Japanese and published. The blog covers a wide range of topics, including research on renewable energy and bioplastics, and research on science communication and behavioral changes in people. We invite you to read it here.
