Future Earth has reached the 10-year milestone since becoming fully operational and has recently published its report on its achievements, *Science in Motion: 2015–2025*.
Over the past decade, Future Earth has grown from a newly established secretariat into a globally collaborative organization dedicated to sustainability science. Our community now comprises over 30,000 scientists from countries and regions around the world, participating through 25 global research networks and 19 national and regional committees, and has produced 6,700 scientific papers to date. *Science in Motion: 2015–2025* traces the trajectory of this decade of growth, collaboration and impact.
This report focuses on five areas to which Future Earth has contributed: building transdisciplinary capacity through program such as the TERRA⁺ School and PEGASuS; advancing transformative science through initiatives including the Earth Commission; shaping the global agenda through ‘10 New Insights in Climate Science’ and engagement with international science and policy processes; improving the accessibility and broadening the reach of sustainability science through platforms such as *Anthropocene Magazine*; and promoting collaborative action through conferences such as the Sustainability Research and Innovation Congress and partnerships with the Belmont Forum.
Groundbreaking achievements, such as the paper ‘Safe and Just Earth System Boundaries’ published in *Nature*, attest to the breadth, credibility and influence of the Future Earth community. This report looks back on Future Earth’s first decade as an operating organization, whilst also looking ahead to the future. The relationships, trust and foundations built over the past decade will serve as the bedrock upon which Future Earth can tackle the challenges of the next decade, guided by the same sense of purpose and spirit of collaboration that have characterized its first decade.
